This features an interpretation of Ammit the Devourer, a demon in ancient Egyptian myth said to consume souls of the dead whose heart weighed more than a feather at final judgment.
I find Egyptian mythology interesting for its insight into how precarious their civilization was against natural forces. There's writings found that state how even their gods would be consumed by the primordial chaos of the desert once again.
